கேப்டன் விஜயகாந்த் தீவிர கடவுள் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டவர். இதனால்தான் தேமுதிகவைத் தொடங்கும்போதே, `கடவுளுடனும் மக்களுடனும்தான் கூட்டணி’ என்று அறிவித்தவர். ஆரம்பகாலம் தொட்டே திருமங்கலம் அருகே உள்ள காங்கேயநத்தத்தில் இருக்கும் குலதெய்வக் கோயிலான வீர சின்னம்மாள் கோயிலுக்கு ஆண்டுதோறும் செல்வதை வழக்கமாகக் கொண்டிருந்தவர். அதேபோல், ஆண்டாள் மீதும் அளவுகடந்த பக்தியையும் பாசத்தையும் காட்டியவர்.

காலேஜ் தொடங்கி டிரஸ்ட், திருமண மண்டபம் என தனது குழுமங்களுக்கு ஆண்டாள் அழகர் என்று பெயர் வைத்தவர். சிறுவயதிலேயே தவறிவிட்ட விஜயகாந்தின் தாயார் பெயரும் ஆண்டாள் என்பதாலே என்னவோ ஆண்டாள் மீது அப்படி ஒரு பக்தியைக் கொண்டிருந்தார். ஒவ்வொரு முக்கியமான நிகழ்வுகளின்போதும் ஸ்ரீவில்லிப்புத்தூர் ஆண்டாள் கோயிலுக்குச் செல்வதை வழக்கமாகவே வைத்திருந்தார். தமிழ்நாடு அரசியல் தேமுதிகவைச் சுற்றியே நிகழ்ந்துகொண்டிருந்த 2016 எலெக்‌ஷன் டைமில் அந்தக் கட்சியின் காஞ்சிபுரம் மாநாடு முக்கியத்துவம் பெற்றிருந்தது. எந்தக் கூட்டணிக்கு விஜயகாந்த் ஓகே சொல்லப்போகிறார் என்ற முடிவுக்காக தேர்தல் களமே பரபரப்பாக இருந்த டைமில் ஆண்டாள் கோயிலுக்குச் சென்று காஞ்சிபுரம் மாநாட்டு அழைப்பிதழை வைத்து ஒரு மணி நேரம் சிறப்புப் பூஜை செய்தார். இதனால், கூட்டணி குறித்து விஜயகாந்த் முடிவு செய்துவிட்டார் என்று அப்போது பேசப்பட்டது.

2011 தேர்தலுக்கு முன்னரும் கட்சி தொடங்குவதற்கு முன்னரும் ஆண்டாளைத் தரிசித்திருந்தார். 2013-ல் ஆண்டாள் கோயில் கோபுர விமானத்தை தங்க விமானமாக மாற்ற ஒரு கிலோ தங்கம் நன்கொடையாக வழங்கினார். 2018-ல் ஆண்டாள் குறித்து கவிஞர் வைரமுத்து பேசியது சர்ச்சையானது. அப்போது ஜீயர் அறிவித்த போராட்டத்துக்கு ஸ்ரீவில்லிப்புத்தூருக்கு நேரடியாகச் சென்று ஆதரவு தெரிவித்ததோடு, வைரமுத்துவுக்குக் கண்டனமும் தெரிவித்திருந்தார். `கடந்த முறை ஆண்டாள் கோயிலுக்கு வந்து சென்று, எதிர்க்கட்சித் தலைவர் ஆனேன். இம்முறை ஆண்டாள் அருளால் முதல்வர் ஆவேன்’ என்று நம்பிக்கையோடு சொல்லியிருந்தார். ஆனால், அவரின் உடல்நிலை ஒத்துழைக்காத காரணத்தால் தீவிர அரசியலில் ஈடுபட முடியாமல் போனது. விஜயகாந்த் மறைந்த மார்கழி 12-ம் தேதிக்குரிய ஆண்டாள் பாசுரமான, `கனைத்துஇளம் கற்றெருமை கன்றுக்கு இரங்கி நினைத்து முலைவழியே நின்றுபால் சோர’, அதாவது கன்றின் பசித்த குரல் கேட்டதும் தானாக பால் சுரந்து பசியாற்றும் தாய் மாடு போலன்னு! கேப்டனும் பசித்த குரல்.. ஒலித்தாலே அந்த பசியைப் போக்கியவர்!’ என்றும் ரசிகர்கள் அவரின் நினைவைப் போற்றி வருகிறார்கள்.
