`நாட்டுக்குள்ளே ஒரு நாடா?’ – மெட்ராஸ் மாகாணம் டு தமிழ்நாடு பெயர்மாற்ற சுவாரஸ்ய பின்னணி!

மெட்ராஸ் ஸ்டேட் தமிழ்நாடு எனப் பெயர் மாற்றம் பெற்று அதிகாரப்பூர்வமாக அறிவிக்கப்பட்ட நாள் 1969ம் ஆண்டு ஜனவரி 14-ம் தேதி. இந்தப் பெயர் மாற்றம் ஒரே நாளில் நடந்துவிடவில்லை… பலரின் போராட்டம் அதை சாத்தியமாக்கியது. அப்போது என்ன நடந்தது?

இந்தியா விடுதலைக்குப் பிறகு மொழிவாரி மாநிலங்கள் பிரிக்கப்பட வேண்டும் என்ற கோரிக்கை கொஞ்சம் கொஞ்சமாக வலுப்பெற்று வந்தது. மொழிவாரி மாநிலங்கள் பிரிப்புக்குப் பின்னரும் மெட்ராஸ் ஸ்டேட்டாகத்தான் இருந்தது தமிழ்நாடு. விருதுநகர் தேசபந்து மைதானத்தில் 12 கோரிக்கைகளை வலியுறுத்தி சுதந்திரப் போராட்டத் தியாகி சங்கரலிங்கனார் உண்ணாவிரதப் போராட்டத்தைத் தொடங்கியிருந்தார். அந்தப் போராட்டத்தின் முக்கியமான ஒரு கோரிக்கை, தமிழ்நாடு எனப் பெயர் மாற்றம் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பது. அப்போது, இதற்காகப் போராடிய மா.பொ.சிவஞானம், அண்ணா, காங்கிரஸ் கட்சியைச் சேர்ந்த காமராஜர் உள்ளிட்டோர் அவரை நேரில் சந்தித்து உண்ணாவிரதத்தைக் கைவிட வலியுறுத்தினர். ஆனால், அவர் விடாப்பிடியாக மறுத்துவிட்டார். கோரிக்கைகளை வலியுறுத்தி போராடிய சங்கரலிங்கனார் தீவிர காங்கிரஸ்காரர். ஆனால், அந்தக் கோரிக்கைகளுக்கு காங்கிரஸ் செவிசாய்க்கவில்லை. தொடர்ந்து 76 நாட்கள் உண்ணாவிரதம் இருந்த அவர், 1956-ம் ஆண்டு அக்டோபர் 13-ம் தேதி உயிரிழந்தார்.

மெட்ராஸ் ஸ்டேட்

இதற்காக 1961-ல் மேற்குவங்கத்தைச் சேர்ந்த கம்யூனிஸ்ட் கட்சியின் நாடாளுமன்ற உறுப்பினர் பூபேஷ் குப்தா, மாநிலங்களவையில் தனிநபர் தீர்மானம் ஒன்றைக் கொண்டுவந்தார். அரசியலமைப்புச் சட்டத்தின் முதல் அட்டவணையில் மாநிலங்களின் பெயர்களைக் கொண்டிருக்கும் பகுதி 7-ல் மெட்ராஸ் என்று இருக்கும் இடத்தில் பெயர் மாற்றம் செய்யவேண்டும் என்று அந்த மசோதா வலியுறுத்தியது. ஆனால், இதை மத்தியிலும் மாநிலத்தையும் ஆண்டுகொண்டிருந்த காங்கிரஸ் அரசாங்கம் விரும்பவில்லை.

பூபேஷ் குப்தா, அண்ணா உள்ளிட்டோர் கலந்துகொண்டு அதன் மீதான விவாதத்தில் பேசினர். நீண்ட விவாதத்தின் முடிவில் அந்த மசோதா தோல்வியுற்றது. அந்த விவாதத்தில் முக்கியமான கருத்துரு எடுத்துவைக்கப்பட்டிருந்தது. 1920-ல் காங்கிரஸ் சீரமைப்பின்போது, அது மெட்ராஸ் காங்கிரஸ் கமிட்டி என்பதற்குப் பதிலாக தமிழ்நாடு காங்கிரஸ் கமிட்டி என்று அழைக்கப்பட்டதையும் விவாதத்தில் சுட்டிக்காட்டினர். தமிழ்நாடு என பெயரை மாற்றுவதால் என்ன லாபத்தை அடைந்துவிடப் போகிறீர்கள்?’ என்று முன்வைக்கப்பட்ட கேள்விக்கு,பார்லிமண்டை லோக்சபா’ என்றும் கவுன்சில் ஆஃப் ஸ்டேட்ஸை ராஜ்யசபா’ என்றும் பிரசிடெண்ட்டை ராஷ்டிரபதி எனவும் மாற்றியதால் நீங்கள் என்ன லாபத்தை அடைந்துவிட்டீர்கள்’ என்று காட்டமாகப் பதில் கேள்வி எழுப்பினார் அண்ணா. அந்த மசோதா தோல்வியடைந்தாலும் பெயர் மாற்றம் செய்ய வேண்டும் என்ற கோரிக்கை பரவலாக வலுப்பெற்றது. 1957 சட்டமன்றத் தேர்தலில் வென்று தி.மு.க முதல்முறையாக பேரவைக்குள் நுழைந்தபோது, இதற்காக ஒரு தீர்மானத்தைக் கொண்டுவந்தார் அண்ணா. முதலமைச்சர் பக்தவச்சலம், “தமிழ்நாடு என்பது நமது நாடா அல்லது இந்திய நாடா? எப்படி இதையும் நமது நாடு அதையும் நமது நாடு என்று சொல்வது’’ என்று சட்டப்பேரவையிலேயே கேள்வி எழுப்பினார்.

மெட்ராஸ் ஸ்டேட்

1967-ல் தி.மு.க முதல்முறையாக ஆட்சிக்கு வந்தபோது ஆங்கிலம், தமிழ் என இரண்டிலுமே தமிழ்நாடு எனக் குறிப்பிடுவதைத் தீர்மானமாக ஜூலை 18-ம் தேதி சட்டப்பேரவையில் கொண்டுவந்தது. தீர்மானம் நிறைவேறிய பின்னர், முதலமைச்சர் அண்ணா, தமிழ்நாடு என மூன்று முறை சொன்னதும், எம்.எல்.ஏக்கள் வாழ்க என வாழ்த்தொலி எழுப்பினர். அதன்பின்னர், நாடாளுமன்றத்தில் இதுதொடர்பான சட்டத் திருத்தம் 1968-ம் ஆண்டு நவம்பர் 1-ம் தேத் நிறைவேறியது. 1969ம் ஆண்டு ஜனவரி 14-ம் தேதி முதல் மெட்ராஸ் ஸ்டேட் என்ற பெயர் தமிழ்நாடு என அதிகாரப்பூர்வமாக மாற்றம் கண்டது.
